Banana Republic company founders Mel and Patricia Ziegler, San Francisco, CA

Banana Republic clothing company founders Mel and Patricia Ziegler in their San Francisco, CA, office in 1986. The husband and wife team founded the Safari themed clothing company Banana Republic in Mill Valley California in 1978. During the company’s first five years it stood out as a specialty fashion store who’s clothing was constructed of natural fibers. In 1983 Banana Republic was acquired by The Gap, another California clothing company, with the Ziegler’s continuing to run Banana Republic until they left in 1988.
